dismissed — Florida Commission on Ethics complaint dismissed (CELPHIE state funding)
While a Florida state senator, Aaron Bean was the subject of a state ethics complaint filed by Carlos Slay (who had unsuccessfully run against John Drew for Nassau County Tax Collector). The complaint alleged Bean misused his position to help secure state funding for CELPHIE, a mental-health screening app developed by Florida Psychological Associates, run by Dr. Catherine Drew (wife of Bean's childhood friend John Drew). An initial $700,000 request was rejected in budget negotiations, but $1 million later appeared in Florida State University's budget for the project. In August 2017 the Florida Commission on Ethics found 'no probable cause' to believe Bean misused his position or improperly profited, and dismissed the complaint. Bean remained in office.
