resolved — Friends of Dave Joyce Campaign Committee FEC ADR Settlement (Treasurer Embezzlement) business
Former treasurer Scott Coleman embezzled approximately $174,952.40 from Joyce's campaign committee 'Friends of Dave Joyce' between January 1, 2015 and November 30, 2018, causing the committee to file inaccurate FEC reports. Coleman pleaded guilty in August 2019 to felony grand theft in Geauga County, Ohio, and was sentenced in October 2019 to 30 days in jail, two years' probation, and a $5,000 fine, and paid $341,983.06 in restitution to the campaign. The FEC opened ADR 990 against the committee and then-treasurer Natalie K. Baur in January 2021 for violations of 52 U.S.C. §30104(b)(4) and 11 CFR 104.3(b) (inaccurate disclosure reports). The case was resolved via a negotiated settlement in June 2021 with no monetary penalty. David Joyce personally was not charged or implicated in wrongdoing; he cooperated with law enforcement and the FEC.
