resolved — 2002 El Paso traffic citations; failure to appear, 2024 arrest warrant and no-contest plea
In 2002, at age 18, Vasquez received three traffic citations in El Paso, Texas: driving without a license, driving without insurance, and disregarding an official traffic control device. He failed to appear in court; El Paso authorities later issued a warrant (around 2008). An El Paso constable executed the warrant on March 19, 2024 (described by police as 'executed by payment' for unpaid traffic citations). Vasquez paid a roughly $900 cash bond, pleaded no contest, and waived his right to a jury trial. His attorney said Vasquez had not been notified of the outstanding citations and characterized it as a routine administrative matter once resolved. Surfaced publicly during the 2024 campaign rematch with Yvette Herrell.
resolved — 2005 New Mexico Marijuana Possession and Paraphernalia Criminal Citations
In 2005, Las Cruces police responded to a noise complaint at Vasquez's apartment and observed him rolling marijuana. When officers knocked, he reportedly tried to flush the marijuana. He was issued criminal citations and summonses for marijuana possession and drug paraphernalia possession. Both cases were released on criminal summons and subsequently suspended without resulting in a conviction.
