closed — FEC MUR 7714 – Alleged Prohibited In-Kind Contribution from Better Future Michigan
The FEC received a complaint alleging that dark-money group Better Future Michigan made prohibited in-kind contributions to John James's 2018 Senate campaign, and that James, his campaign committee, and treasurer Timothy Caughlin accepted those contributions in violation of 52 U.S.C. § 30118(a). The Commission also considered allegations that the parties violated the soft-money ban under 52 U.S.C. § 30125(e)(1). The full Commission voted 6-0 to dismiss all allegations and closed the file.
closed — FEC MUR 7808 – Alleged Corporate Contribution from Renaissance Global Logistics to Outsider PAC business
A complaint alleged that John James, as CEO of Renaissance Global Logistics LLC (RGL), improperly authorized a $10,000 corporate contribution from RGL to Outsider PAC, an independent expenditure-only committee supporting his 2018 Senate campaign. A further allegation claimed that an $8,000 Outsider PAC advertisement funded on the same day constituted an illegal coordinated communication. The FEC dismissed the allegations, noting the relatively low dollar amount and concluding the advertisement did not meet the conduct prong of the coordination test.

The FEC dismissed all allegations.
