resolved — Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners Disciplinary Action: Sexual Relationships with Patients
The Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners formally reprimanded and fined DesJarlais $500 (plus up to $1,000 in investigation costs) for engaging in sexual relationships with two female patients while he served as a physician and chief of staff at Grandview Medical Center in Jasper, Tennessee. The board found his conduct violated Tennessee law governing physician-patient relationships and constituted unprofessional conduct. The disciplinary action stemmed from conduct that occurred before his election to Congress. The board stopped short of suspending or revoking his medical license. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) had filed the complaint with the board in October 2012.
