resolved — Civil Court Judgment Against Hoka Coffee Company for Unpaid Investor Debt business
A South Dakota circuit court judge ordered Sharice Davids' failed small business, Hoka Coffee Company — a coffee enterprise she founded on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation — to repay investors approximately $19,539. The company had been founded around 2013 and subsequently failed. As of the October 2018 McClatchy/Kansas City Star investigative report by Bryan Lowry, the investors had not received any repayment despite the court order having been issued more than two years prior. The judgment ran against the business entity, not Davids personally. No criminal charges or personal civil liability findings were reported.
